However, the tower is always going to be the star of the show. It is open to the public these days, so take the time to climb the 294 steps to the top so that you can take in the breath taking view from the top.

4. Venice ? Another Italian landmark that is known the world over. There is too much to talk about when it comes to Venice; think canals, gondolas and beautiful glasswork and you will not be far off.

5. Capri Island ? An example of the diversity of Italy, visiting Capri after another Italian city is like stepping into another world. Spend your time here lapping up the sun on the postcard beaches, and remember to keep your eyes out for celebrities as they are all over this island when the sun is out, which is almost always.
